The main goal of this Research Unit is to integrate the study, both at the theoretical and methodological as well as experimental level, of such research disciplines as robotics, mechatronics, automated control systems and, in a more general perspective, intelligent autonomous systems. In this scenario, the Research Unit favors  the holistic combination of disciplines that contribute to robotic systems in a broad perspective, such as artificial and bio-inspired sensing (including, for example, machine vision, hearing, tactile and speech information), knowledge representation and reasoning, action planning and robot motion control. To this aim, the contribution of close research fields, such as nano- and micro-scale embedded technologies, software and computing architectures (including real-time and distributed systems) and machine learning is considered.
